Abstract: The article discusses the state of early childhood oral disease in the U.S., as well as initiatives to combat the disease. While the rates of dental diseases has declined in adults, dental decay among children has exponentially increased. Medical and dental collaboration is critical to addressing early childhood oral disease. However, there are barriers to such collaboration including lack of physician and dental training in treating infants and toddlers, and dental reluctance.
