| Abstract: | In this article the author discusses the proper grammatical use of the adverb however, and argues that recommendations from authors William Strunk and E. B. White regarding its linguistically correct form are outdated and incorrect. He comments on authors including Oscar Wilde who have used the term at the beginning of sentences, which Strunk and White state is incorrect, and discusses topics including Standard English, grammar instruction, and ambiguity. |
