Abstract: The article discusses the application of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to solve a problem of how large should be the number of umbrellas N that the absent-mended professor should purchase at one-time. It presents the diagram of Markov chain for the case of N = 3 umbrellas which is used to solve the problem. It states that an Excel 5.0 workbook was created to simulate the problem. It concludes that Excel spreadsheet may used to allow students investigate further the aspects of a problem.
