Abstract: The Other worlds teaching materials at http://otherworldsw.yolasite.com provide Stage 3 and 4 English students with rich opportunities to interpret, appreciate and evaluate literature. They have largely been designed in response to contemporary Australian fiction. Using the learning cycle Read - Reflect - Respond - Re-imagine, students proceed from interpretation and enjoyment into creating their own literary texts. The Other worlds project integrates a series of Web 2.0 authoring tools into a series of challenging, higher order lessons. Throughout the lessons, students create their own online multimodal texts, such as digital stories and interactive posters. This workshop will showcase the writing produced by students in three schools as part of the Other worlds project. Participants will be shown the scaffolding and modelling which led to high quality work and will take away the criteria checklists which were shared with students to boost their writing.
