Abstract: The article examines the relationship between age of entry into formal education and participation in Accelerated Reader (AR) program. The study uses data gathered from 2009-2010 school year from elementary schools in the U.S. midwest each enrolling kindergarten through fifth grades. It states that correct age to begin formal education is a popular topic due to anecdotal stories indicating that children who are held back a year before starting kindergarten outperform their peers in classrooms.
