Abstract: The article reports on an increase in the number of U.S. schools that have adopted human rights frameworks and restorative justice practices in response to the over-policing of students and zero tolerance policies on educational attainment and achievement and to create a more justice-oriented school environment for students. A profile of the Humanities Preparatory Academy, a small, urban New York City public high school that uses a restorative justice model called the Fairness Committee to address community norm violations is presented.
