| Abstract: | The article discusses slavery in colonial America, with particular focus given to the author's research regarding a slave named Adam Jackson. An overview of slave-owner relations in early America is presented, and the social conditions of slaves are commented on. A diary by Joshua Hempstead, a Connecticut merchant and the owner of Adam Jackson, is also explored and the relationship between the two men is commented on along with the author's decision to change her research focus to the role of slavery in colonial New England. |
