Abstract (English): One of the categories of Guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change included in the Industrial Process module, is the glass production which has led the commitment to inventory and control emissions from this sector. Sources of CO2 emissions from the glass melting process include raw materials such as limestone, dolomite and soda ash, as well as the use of fuels in the melting furnace. The carbon footprint indicator has been used to evaluate the progress of the environmental management of this industry. The purpose of this research is to estimate the carbon footprint in glass production in Cuba; as a result, the equivalent CO. emissions associated with this production were obtained. Highest contributions were reported within Scope 1, related to the fuel oil consumption in the melting furnace. Carbon footprint for glass production was determined with a value of 0,12 t CO. equivalent per ton of molten glass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): La producción de vidrio es una de las categorías de las Guías del Panel Intergubernamental de Cambio Climático, dentro del módulo Procesos Industriales, lo que ha suscitado el compromiso de inventariar y controlar las emisiones de este sector. Entre las fuentes de emisión de CO. del proceso de fundición del vidrio se encuentran materias primas como la piedra caliza, la dolomita y la ceniza de sosa, así como el empleo de combustibles en el horno de fusión. El indicador huella de carbono se ha utilizado para evaluar el avance de la gestión medioambiental de esta industria. El objetivo de esta investigación fue estimar la huella de carbono en la producción de vidrio en Cuba. Como resultado, se obtuvieron las emisiones de CO. equivalentes asociadas a esta producción; las mayores contribuciones se reportaron dentro del alcance 1, relacionado por el consumo de combustible fuel oil en el horno de fusión. Se determina la huella de carbono para la producción de vidrio con un valor de 0,12 t CO. equivalente por tonelada de vidrio fundido. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
