Abstract (English):	Rio Tinto is the second largest mining company in the world. It was founded in 1873 and operates in 35 countries, with its headquarters in London/UK. Its 49,000 employees are focused on finding the metals and materials that the world needs. In 2021, its sales totaled 63.5 bn US$. Managing Director European Operations, Colin Mackey (Figure 1), has led the company's European operations since October 2021, but has been in the mining industry for over 20 years and has held various positions at Rio Tinto since 2003. He spoke to Andreas-Peter Sitte, Chief Editor of the German mining magazine Mining Report Glückauf, about geopolitical aspects of raw material supply, the supply and role of critical raw materials such as lithium for the energy transition, but also modern and sustainable mining. Abstract (German):	Rio Tinto ist das zweitgrößte Bergbauunternehmen der Welt. Es wurde 1873 gegründet und ist in 35 Ländern tätig, wobei sich der Hauptsitz in London/UK befindet. Seine 49.000 Mitarbeiter konzentrieren sich darauf, die Metalle und Materialien zu finden, welche die Welt braucht. Im Jahr 2021 belief sich der Umsatz des Unternehmens auf 63,5 Mrd. US-$. Colin Mackey (Bild 1), Managing Director European Operations, leitet die europäischen Aktivitäten des Unternehmens seit Oktober 2021. Er ist seit über 20 Jahren in der Bergbaubranche tätig und hat seit 2003 ver- schiedene Positionen bei Rio Tinto durchlaufen. Mit Andreas-Peter Sitte, dem Chefredakteur des deutschen Bergbau-Fachmagazins Mining Report Glückauf, sprach er über geopolitische Aspekte der Rohstoffversorgung, die Versorgung mit und die Rolle von kritischen Rohstoffen wie Lithium für die Energiewende, aber auch über modernen und nachhaltigen Bergbau.
