Abstract: The content of Al, Zn, Fe, Ca, Cu, Mg, Li, K, and Na was determined in 80 samples of fauna, including Palaemon elegans, Stramonita haemastoma, Phorcus atratus, and Anemonia sulcata, collected in July 2023 from the intertidal area La Punta del Hidalgo (Tenerife, the Canary Islands) during low and high tide from pools with an algae coverage ranging from 25 to 60%. Significant variations (p < 0.05) in metal concentrations were observed across species and tidal states, revealing distinct patterns for each element. Palaemon elegans had relatively stable concentrations between tides for most elements, suggesting possible physiological adaptations or dietary factors contributing to homeostasis. Contrastingly, S. haemastoma and P. atratus presented varying metal levels, potentially linked to feeding behaviors and habitat-specific metal exposure during the different tidal phases. Finally, A. sulcata showed sensitive responses to tidal changes, possibly due to nutrient availability and interactions within its habitat. The concentration differences align with the dynamic environmental shifts between low and high tides, which lead to variations in these elements' accumulation and bioavailability in intertidal pools.
