Abstract: The rapidly growing textile and apparel sector, a key contributor to Bangladesh's economy, faces increasing energy demands and environmental challenges, highlighting the need for comprehensive assessments to support SDG 7 and SDG 9. A detailed energy assessment to categorize the energy using apparatus and breakdown energy consumption has been led at a textile industry in Bangladesh. As electric motors are the primary energy‐consuming equipment, various strategies for energy savings and emission reduction have been evaluated for the industry. It is found that by using variable speed drive (VSD), around 4708 MWh, 14124 MWh, 23540 MWh, 32956 MWh, 43313 MWh, and 51788 MWh of energy can be saved for speed reduction of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60%, respectively. Around 2599 MWh, 1950 MWh, and 1751 MWh of energy is possible to save by using high‐efficiency motors (HEM) for motor loadings of 50%, 75%, and 100%, correspondingly. After analyzing the payback period, HEM is more effective than VSD. However, in the case of higher rated motors, both HEM and VSD show a close payback period. Moreover, by using both the HEM and VSD, a huge amount of harmful emission gases can be reduced, wherein CO2 is the major amount. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
