Abstract: Exploring the degree of coupling coordination between China's new quality productivity and manufacturing carbon emission efficiency is crucial for achieving high-quality development in the manufacturing sector. This study focuses on 30 provinces and cities in China as the research target area. Initially, the entropy method and the Slack-Based Measure directional distance function model, which accounts for non-expected outputs, are utilized to measure the new quality productivity and manufacturing carbon emission efficiency from 2012 to 2021. Subsequently, an enhanced coupling coordination degree model, along with the relative development model, are applied to assess and analyze the level and state of harmonious development between these two factors, as well as to investigate their spatiotemporal differentiation characteristics. Finally, a spatial autocorrelation model is incorporated to examine the spatial correlation of their coordinated development levels. The findings reveal: (1) China's new quality productivity levels demonstrate a consistent growth trend with notable provincial disparities, displaying a distribution pattern of "high growth and low level" and "low growth and high level." The efficiency of manufacturing carbon emissions exhibits a gradual upward trend throughout the study period, generally maintaining a medium to high level. Central regions witness faster growth in carbon emission efficiency, while eastern regions show slower growth, mirroring the distribution pattern of new-quality productivity. (2) The coupling coordination degree between new quality productivity and manufacturing carbon emission efficiency is transitioning from an antagonistic stage to a stage of running-in, with significant provincial variations. High-value areas exhibit a spatial evolutionary trend of "east coast to west inland diffusion." In terms of relative development status, the manufacturing carbon emission efficiency lag type is predominantly found in southeastern coastal areas, whereas the new quality productivity lag type is mainly concentrated in western inland areas, with a few regions achieving synchronous development. (3) The coupling coordination degree exhibits a significant positive spatial correlation over the study period, indicating a pronounced spatial spillover effect. The Moran's I index fluctuates and shows an upward trend, with the spatial distribution of provinces primarily characterized by two types of clustering: high-high and low-low. These insights provide a robust theoretical basis for developing policies that promote new quality productivity and the harmonious development of the manufacturing sector, thereby contributing to the progression of a low-carbon and green development model.
