| Abstract: | The management of legacy high-level radioactive waste (HLW) from the U.S. nuclear weapons production remains a major environmental challenge. This study reports the synthesis and evaluation of four lipophilic o-sulfonamidophenol ligands for selective separation of Sm(III) from alkaline HLW simulants. Compounds msa6 and msa7 demonstrated up to 30% Sm (III) recovery under modified Next-Generation Caustic-Side Solvent Extraction (NG-CSSX) conditions, while branched analogs mm1 and mm2 achieved 31–44% recovery. Under radiolytic conditions (up to 202 kGy), msa6 and msa7 effectively extracted Am-241 and Eu-154 with distribution ratios up to DEu = 1.64 and DAm = 0.79, maintaining high Cs(I) selectivity (DCs > 200).
