Abstract: The present study examines the evolution of ecological footprint research using bibliometric analysis methods such as performance analyses, science mapping, and bibliographic coupling with the help of VOSviewer and R studio software tools. These methodical approaches help us unveil prominent authors, journals and countries, most cited studies, and key thematic clusters within this domain, which shape the discourse and emphasize the essential role of analytical tools in comprehending environmental impacts. Out of seven thematic clusters identified by bibliographic coupling, sustainability stands out as the most prominent, which indicates the growing interest of researchers in studies related to SDGs, local sustainability strategies, and environmental sustainability. Renewable energy adoption, sustainable and ecotourism framework, and convergence analysis are among other prominent themes, which collectively highlight the critical role of community and stakeholder engagement to develop effective sustainability strategies to achieve ecological balance and human well-being. The cluster related to innovation efficiency emerges as an underdeveloped domain, urging further scholarly attention for future research by incorporating regional economic characteristics and innovation dynamics into ecological footprint research to develop innovative strategies. Overall, current scholarly inquiry provides an overview of ecological footprint research and its temporal evolution, along with guidance for future investigations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
