Abstract: The three stages of syenite magmatism have been identified within the Chingiz-Tarbagatai zone of Eastern Kazakhstan, Early Devonian (401 Ma), Late Devonian (374–372 Ma), and Late Carboniferous (323–315 Ma). Devonian massifs are localized within a single northwest-trending belt in the northeastern part of the Chingiz-Tarbagatai zone and are composed of nepheline and alkaline syenites that demonstrate intraplate geochemical characteristics. It is assumed that their formation took place in the rear part of the Devonian active margin of the Kazakh paleocontinent. Quartz syenites of Carboniferous age form massifs in the southwestern part of the Chingiz-Tarbagatai zone and possess geochemical characteristics typical of supra-subduction formations. Their emplacement occurred during the early stages of the evolution of the Balkhash-Ili volcano-plutonic belt, the formation of which is associated with the final stages of subduction of the oceanic crust of the Junggar-Balkhash basin under the Kazakhstan paleocontinent.
