| Abstract: | Morphometric assessment of a drainage basin can be used to determine the significance of large to small-scale tectonic activity. It may be extremely beneficial in geohazard mitigation and planning. The present study demonstrates the application of morphometric analysis and its correlation with tectonic and climatic proxies in the Ladhiya River basin, Uttarakhand Himalayas, India. Linear, Areal, and Relief parameters for the basin were calculated for the drainage system, and the channel topography was analyzed using a longitudinal profile. The basin was further delineated using conventional tectonic proxies such as stream length gradient index (SL), steepness index (Ksn), Chi (χ), gradient length anomaly (GLA), sinuosity (SI), and knickpoint (Kp) assessment. The results of these parameters inferred an elongated, youthful basin, undergoing incision and uplift along the upstream and rapid erosion along the downstream. The anomalies in the parameters were seen along the major thrust zones, indicating the dominance of tectonic influxes within the basin. The morphometric analysis indicates the possibility of natural geohazards such as landslides and flash floods, which significantly affect the morphology of the area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
