Abstract: Chapter 5 of the book "Petroleum Reservoir Simulations: A Basic Approach" is presented. It discusses the discretization of 1D, 2D, and 3D reservoirs using point-distributed grids in Cartesian and radial-cylindrical coordinate systems. The treatment of different boundary conditions is also presented including specified pressure gradient boundary condition and specified flow rate boundary condition. A general flow equation that can be applied to both interior and boundary gridpoints is also discussed.
