Abstract: Thirteen micrographic events have been identified which are expected to have the greatest impact on the libraries of today and tomorrow. They can be divided into two groups: Nine are of a technological nature and involve micrographic products; the remaining four are basically educational in nature and reflect positive responses from the library community to a changing micrographic technology. Most of the 13 have taken place within the past five years. Only recently have most events become powerful enough to have an individual effect on library practice. It is at this point in time, however, that a true synergy of the influence of these events is rendering the current level of library-micrographic knowledge obsolete. The 13 events to be discussed within the framework of this report are briefly presented. The author describes the many types of microforms, explains the differences between each type, and discusses the uses, benefits, and drawbacks of the various microforms. Included are a discussion of related technological events of the past decade and a list of microform equipment. Many technical terms are defined such as those describing the reproduction process of the various microform types. Also included is an annotated bibliography of the literature of micrographics.
