Abstract: In August, 1971, The National Home Library Foundation of Washington, D.C., awarded to The George Washington University a grant to install a set of the ultra-microfiche "Library of American Civilization" (produced by Encyclopaedia Britannica's subsidiary, Library Resources, Inc.), together with all available associated equipment and bibliographic support. The GW Library was to make the resource known to a wide local audience, and to permit its use both on- and off-site during the calendar year beginning January 1, 1972. From its evaluation of the demonstration the Library hoped to develop information of help to other libraries in gaining maximum utilization of book resources in ultra-microfiche (i.e., highly reduced) form. This final report of the project describes the "Library of American Civilization" package; and, discusses its installation and operation, the reading equipment, collection usage and evaluation at the George Washington University Library.
