| Abstract: | The first phase of a four-phase study on the effectiveness of microfiche medium for onboard training systems examined a variety of microfiche readers with respect to: (1) ease-of-use; (2) loading and unloading characteristics; and (3) branching to specific microfiche frames. Some 60 Navy recruits performed branching tasks to simulate the branching requirements of programed instruction. Based on equipment evaluations and recruit performances, five indexing methods and four types of readers were rank-ordered. Recruits did not experience difficulty with any of the readers, however, the Realist/Vantage I reader with a grid map index for branching was most highly rated. (EMH) |
