| Abstract: |
This report evaluates the fifth year of a supportive reading program for educationally disadvantaged children in grades two, three, and four. Students were tested for improvement in oral reading, total reading, grade placement, self-concept, attitude, and attendance. In addition, the parents of participating children were surveyed for their reactions to the project. The report describes the program objectives and each of the evaluative measures involved; it then analyzes the results. While reading test scores reflect marked improvement, the project did not contribute significantly to student self-concept. Appendixes contain the student tests and results, the questionnaire in both Spanish and English that was used with the parents, and an analysis of parent reaction. (MAI) |
