Abstract: This report summarizes the findings and recommendations of the Bi-State Committee on Education concerning public schools in the Greater Kansas City region, especially with regard to the problem of racial isolation. Educational activities and problems, civic and political leadership in the area, and the significance of segregated housing patterns are reviewed. Suggested remedies for improving the quality of education in the Kansas City area and for providing equal educational opportunities to minority and other educationally disadvantaged students include: (1) more equal allocation of resources; (2) busing; (3) improved leadership; (4) school improvement; (5) instructional improvement; (6) magnet schools; and (7) voluntary desegregation efforts.
