Abstract: One in a series of 10 promotional publications on videotex, this document describes both videotex and teletext and illustrates with actual examples how educators are using these new tools. Topics discussed include the educational roles permitted by the standardization of videotex and teletext; characteristics of the North American Presentation Level Protocol Syntax (NAPLPS), known in Canada as Telidon; how videotex can work with microcomputers; integrated computer assisted instruction/videotex sytems and software; and videotex software for microcomputers. Advantages of videotex are given as ease of use, low cost, assured service and reliability, and home delivery of education. Specific examples of educational videotex and teletext applications are described and include those of the TV Ontario services Edutex and Edutel, University of Alaska, the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Department, University of Guelph, Canadian Hospital Association, National Museum of Man, Sheridan College, Memorial University (St. John's, Newfoundland), and the University of Calgary.
