| Abstract: | An update and extension of EURO Reports and Studies No. 77 ("Graduate Medical Education in the European Region"), this publication provides information in the form of narrative descriptions and tabular data of graduate medical education in 30 European nations. Information is presented on functions of internship, content of training, training needs, and pointers. Part I contains descriptions for each country presented in terms of general arrangements, stages of specialization, content of training, organization and control, assessment, and additional observations. Nations included are: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Finland, France, German Democratic Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, United Kingdom, and Yugoslavia. Part II consists of tables comparing basic information across countries, summarizing training requirements for each country, and summarizing training requirements in individual specialties across countries.
