| Abstract: | This report is a guide for the maintainer or developer of the computerized comprehensibility system (CCS), a system that uses techniques and results from artificial intelligence and cognitive psychology to critique the comprehensibility of a technical document. The purpose of this report is to allow the qualified programmer to rapidly understand the internal mechanisms of CCS in order to correct, modify, or extend the grammar and criticism rules in CCS. The following sections are included: (1) an overview of CCS; (2) a description of each of the components of the CCS system including the syntax for grammar specification, production rules, a description of lexicon entries, and information about the representations that CCS constructs; (3) a series of maintenance examples in which the parser and semantics module of the system are extended to handle new kinds of structures and new criticism rules added to CCS; and (4) a complete list of the criticisms and comments generated by the current version of CCS.
