Abstract: This American School and University supplement theme issue provides information from experts in the security industry concerning school violence and its prevention. Articles address the lessons learned from recent school shootings that may help reduce future occurrences, the need for a greater adherence to order in schools to set the stage for a more secure learning environment, the use of identification badges, and ways of conducting a school facility security audit. It explains how to determine which technology is most important for school security, the development of a crisis management plan, and the preplanning steps that helped one community deal quietly with a rash of bomb threats.
