| Abstract: | This project builds organizational and staff capacity to deliver HIV/AIDS education to farmworking Hispanic female adolescents and women. It includes two training manuals, one addressing the issues of farmworking mothers/mentors, and one addressing the issues of preadolescent and adolescent farmworking girls. This manual for girls emphasizes skills building around communication, refusal and negotiation skills, learning about the body, HIV/AIDS, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It stresses the importance of clear communication styles and skills building. The manual contains six units with basic HIV/AIDS and STD information, exercises, stories, and handouts. Participants go through a subtle process that involves exploring self-identity without assaulting personal experiences or values and using self- reflection to move toward an understanding of the need to address sexuality, HIV, and STDs in their lives. This helps girls gradually become aware of HIV/AIDS prevention. The six units are: (1) "Team Building: Getting to Know Each Other and the Program"; (2) "Our Bodies"; (3) "La Comunicacion: Strategies for Effective Communication"; (4) "Raising Consciousness About HIV/AIDS Among Farmworking Women"; (5) "Understanding the Facts about HIV and Other STDs"; and (6) "Las Destrezas: Skill Development for Young Women."
