Abstract: The purpose of this quantitative correlational-associative study was to determine if, and to what extent, there were statistically significant correlations between intent to stay and the three factors of organizational commitment for rural school educators in the Plains States. Three research questions guided this study to examine the potential correlation between the Three Component Model of Organizational Commitment (TCM) variables (affective, continuance, and normative) and the Turnover Intention Scale (TIS-6). The study surveyed teachers (N = 401) currently serving within rural schools in the Plains states of Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The data collected was analyzed using the Spearman's correlation to determine if and to what extent a correlation existed between the three TCM variables and the TIS-6 model. There was a statistically significant correlation between the variables of AC and TIS-6, r[subscript s] (401) = -0.572, p < 0.001. There was a statistically significant correlation between the variables of CC and TIS-6, r[subscript s] (401) = 0.186, p < 0.001. There was a statistically significant correlation between the variables of NC and TIS-6, r[subscript s] (401) = -0.482, p < 0.001. Study implications and recommendations for future research are discussed. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
