Abstract: "A Dictionary of Contemporary Figurative Language" is meant to be an appendix to an earlier, more comprehensive work: ED648945, "A Dictionary and Thesaurus of Contemporary Figurative Language and Metaphor 2024." This appendix simply updates the dictionary of that previous work to better reflect the language used during the 2024 United States presidential election, during which terms like joy, authenticity, fascist, genocide, and they/them figured prominently. As stated for the previous work, "This is first and foremost a resource for EFL/ESL students. It should also be of interest to teachers, curriculum developers, materials writers, teacher trainers, and lexicographers. And it has attracted interest from experts interested in metaphor detection, natural language processing (NLP), and social-media analysis, some of whom are using the tool of artificial intelligence (AI)." This appendix lacks the thesaurus of the previous work.
