Abstract: Prekindergarten programs are designed to prepare young children for kindergarten and increase their likelihood of academic success. This Research Brief examined kindergarten readiness rates, enrollment, attendance, and withdrawal patterns of students in prekindergarten (Pre-K) programs in 2022-2023. Data revealed that 62% of Pre-K students who were voluntary prekindergarten (VPK) completers from programs under the purview of Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) were kindergarten-ready in fall 2023. The readiness rate for M-DCPS VPK completers was 13 percentage points higher than the 49% overall readiness rate for Miami-Dade County (countywide - public and private providers) and 11 percentage points higher than the state's 51% overall readiness rate (public and private providers).
