Abstract: Concern over one-sided ideological bias in higher education has built over the past few years, resulting in a slew of articles calling for change. Academia should be reformed from the inside by setting up new policies and procedures that address the ideological imbalance and the resultant groupthink, junk science, and "cancellations" that have occurred at such high rates in recent years. Taking a cue from the US Constitution, the authors propose a series of "checks and balances" among the major actors in institutions of higher ed to prevent any one faction from dominating. Solutions to higher ed's political bias problem have ranged from new centers devoted to civic education to eliminating DEI. While such measures may help, none get to the heart of the problem, which is ultimately the ideological makeup of the faculty and its effects on curricula, student experience, and knowledge production. This proposal is designed to address head-on this core problem that is distorting and discrediting academia.
