Abstract: The theme of Issue 53 of the "Bank Street Occasional Paper Series, Speculative Youth Participatory Action Research: Narratives of Imaginative Social Dreaming," arose from the perception that many youths and teachers assumed that youth participatory action research (YPAR) was unattainable to them. This issue argues that, to the contrary, many have been living different forms of YPAR for years. This issue goes beyond YPAR to present adults and youth joining together to engage in Speculative Youth Participatory Action Research (SPY-PAR). SPY-PAR offers a lens that centers youths' and their adult facilitators' potential for radical transformation through their speculative practices. SPY-PAR builds upon the foundation of YPAR by integrating speculative literacies (Mirra & Garcia, 2020) to foster youth agency, imagination, and critical inquiry.
