Abstract: This mixed-methods quasi-experimental study evaluated the effectiveness of Heggerty Bridge to Reading implemented as a Tier 2 intervention for students performing below grade level in reading. The sample included 873 first and second grade students across 29 schools in a Michigan intermediate school district during the 2024-2025 academic year. Students in schools that used Bridge to Reading demonstrated statistically significant gains on NWEA MAP Growth Reading assessments compared to comparison peers, with effect sizes ranging from 0.3 to 0.5. Positive impacts were observed across both grade levels and among key subgroups, including students receiving special education services and those qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Administrator interviews revealed high satisfaction with program materials alongside implementation challenges related to adapting the Tier 1 curriculum for intervention contexts. Findings suggest Bridge to Reading shows promise as a Tier 2 intervention when implemented with appropriate support.
