Abstract: This toolkit is designed to support one of the most critical functions of educational leadership: building an exceptional team to serve students. The work of creating a fair and just hiring process is not a peripheral initiative or a compliance exercise; it is a core strategy for achieving educational excellence and belonging. The teachers and administrators in schools have the profound potential to disrupt patterns of unfairness and create transformative opportunities for every child. This toolkit is organized into five distinct parts, each designed to build upon the last. The structure guides leaders and their teams from understanding the foundational principles of this work to implementing specific, practical strategies at every stage of the hiring process. The toolkit is organized into five parts: (1) The Foundation -- Why Fair Hiring Matters; (2) The Mindset -- Mitigating Bias in Ourselves and Our Systems; (3) The Search -- Sourcing & Attracting a Broad Talent Pool; (4) The Selection -- Designing a Fair Evaluation Process; and (5) The Commitment -- Onboarding and Retaining a Varied Workforce.
