Abstract: John Burroughs (1837-1921) did more than anyone else in his time, through his books and magazine articles, to create an interest in the natural sciences and outdoor life. When asked how to teach children to love nature, he replied, "Do not try to teach them at all. Just turn them loose in the country and trust to luck." (Author/KM)
