Abstract: This article presents a description of the Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales, Third Edition (Vineland-3; Sparrow, Cicchetti, & Saulnier, 2016), published by Pearson, which is a newly updated individually administered measure of adaptive functioning for individuals from birth to age 90. Primarily used in clinical, psychoeducational, and research settings, the Vineland-3 evaluates development of functional skills whose impairment is commonly identified as core to a diagnosis of intellectual disability. The Vineland-3 is a Level B measure, and can be administered and interpreted by individuals with a master's degree in psychology, education, occupational therapy, social work, counseling, or a field closely related to the intended use of the assessment. Administration time varies depending upon the form selected and age of the examinee, and can range from 10 (Comprehensive Parent/Caregiver Form) to 40 (Comprehensive Interview Form) minutes. The Vineland-3 kit is available in several different formats that include a Manual and packages of record forms (the selection of which is determined by the kit purchased). Kits can also be purchased with optional access to online scoring. The manual is expansive and well laid-out, beginning with an overview of the measure and its history and progressing onto the process of administration, scoring, and interpretation of the measure. Revision goals are outlined, and evidence of the measure's reliability and validity is provided.
