| Abstract: | This quantitative, non-experimental, retrospective, descriptive study examined the adequacy of principal preparation program (PPP) training in Texas, using the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) standards as a guiding framework. Survey responses from 245 principals were analyzed to determine whether perceptions of preparation varied by program type, years of service, or geographic region. Findings revealed that participants generally perceived a high level of preparation aligned with the NELP standards; however, preparation related to internships (Standard 8) showed significant regional differences, with rural principals reporting lower perceived adequacy. No significant differences emerged based on program type or years of service. Strengths were noted in ethics and professional norms, while areas for improvement included instructional leadership and field-based experiences. Implications for enhancing program design are discussed, particularly regarding equitable access to high-quality internships. |
