| Abstract: | As artificial intelligence (AI) transforms education, leaders may be tempted to replace coaches with AI to save money while still promoting better teaching and better learning. This article argues that abandoning coaching for AI means abandoning the most effective methodology for improving teaching and learning for a machine that is incapable of addressing many of the needs of teachers and students. As ethical and practical considerations should guide how AI can support instructional coaches, the author provides six capabilities that can enhance the work of coaches. |
