Abstract: Educators, including library professionals are fortunate to have access to multiple educational Apps, virtual learning environments, and smartphones. However, during numerous Information Literacy sessions at Manchester Metropolitan University, the authors have continued to witness the value of paper-based activities. In this case study, we will discuss our experience of using paper-based active learning methods within library sessions for students in distance learning programmes. We aim to reflect on the efficacy of this approach and justify it with reference to the wider science literature. We also want to emphasize the importance of distance learning as an incubator for innovative practice.
