| Abstract: | Mental health among college students is a critical concern as academic pressures and parental expectations may affect their well-being and performance. This study examined whether academic motivation and self-efficacy moderate the relationship between parental expectations and mental health among Filipino nursing students. Using a quantitative predictive design, 339 nursing students completed four standardized questionnaires via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using moderating analysis through JAMOVI software after data cleaning and assumption testing. Results showed that parental expectations did not significantly affect mental health (p = 0.19). However, academic motivation and self-efficacy were positively associated with mental health (p < 0.001, respectively) and did not moderate the relationship between parental expectations and mental health. These results point to the influence of broader sociocultural and contextual factors in shaping students' well-being. The study highlights the need for interventions that strengthen motivation and self-efficacy and calls for future research to examine additional protective factors and cultural dynamics that affect the mental health of Filipino nursing students. |
