Abstract: Faced with the challenge of fostering genuine literacy engagement amidst curriculum demands and digital distractions, our "Reading for Tomorrow" initiative in Taiwan turned to Modeled Sustained Silent Reading (MSSR) as a cornerstone practice. This article offers a practical guide based on our experiences implementing MSSR across 30 diverse kindergartens. It explains the motivation for our book-focused approach and then details how we cultivated immersive reading environments, structured daily reading routines, and facilitated rich book talks in our classrooms. Furthermore, we outline our strategies for transforming parent-teacher relationships from passive communication to active co-creation, extending reading into the home. Our goal is to offer actionable insights for fellow literacy educators and parents seeking to cultivate joyful, lifelong readers.
