| Abstract: | The authors visited Ghana in West Africa to strengthen a link established the previous year as part of Channel 4's "On the Line" project. The initial link established in 1999/2000 was between an all-age special school in Enfield and a similar school in Accra. Over the course of that year further partnerships were created between five UK schools (mainstream primary and one secondary) and corresponding schools in Ghana. Contact was maintained through e-mail, post and telephone calls. The remit for their visit was to explore sustainable development and world citizenship. One of them looked in particular at alternative sources of energy; the other at personal, social and health education at secondary level. They also intended to extend the contacts between local schools in both Accra and London. Several of the partnerships that had been established were very successful, and others needed additional support. (Contains 3 figures.) |
