| Abstract (English): | Anatomy and physiology knowledge of the airway is important for the initial care of the patient with systemic decompensations. The present review aims to mention the most important features of upper and lower airway, dismembering each of the constituent organs and their role in the functioning of the respiratory system, its relevance in the process of airway emergency and its importance for handling advanced airway. The second part evaluates physiological variables that allow ventilation and respiration as a functional element of the human body, showing relevant aspects of the processes of diffusion of gas, ventilation-perfusion distribution, vascular tone and lung volumes. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology is the complement to the initial handling by staff trained in airway management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | El conocimiento de la anatomía y la fisiología de la vía aérea son de suma importancia para la atención inicial del paciente con descompensaciones sistémicas. La revisión actual pretende mencionar las características más importantes de la vía aérea superior e inferior, desmembrando cada uno de los órganos constituyentes y mostrando su rol en el funcionamiento del sistema respiratorio, sus determinantes en el proceso de emergencia de la vía aérea y su importancia a la hora de manejar vía aérea avanzada. En la segunda parte se evalúan las variables fisiológicas que hacen posible la ventilación y respiración como elemento funcional del cuerpo humano, mostrando aspectos relevantes los procesos de difusión del gas, distribución ventilación-perfusión, tono vascular y volúmenes pulmonares. El conocimiento tanto de la anatomía como de la fisiología es el complemento del manejo inicial por parte del personal entrenado en manejo de la vía aérea. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
