Abstract (English): The composition, structure, morphology so as the thermal and textural properties of the clayey fraction from Pontezuela Cuban Mineral Deposit in Camagüey province are studied to evaluate its usefulness as nanoreactor for semiconducting carbonaceous nanomaterial Graphene-like/Clay preparation. The pristine Pontezuela mineral deposit was milled and purified through benefit, by separating the fraction < 2 µm. The elemental chemical composition of the clayey fraction, SiO2 52,66 %; MgO 12,75 %; Al2O3 11,82 %, Fe2O3 7,09 %; K2O 0,8 %; Na2O 0,27 % and CaO 0,19 %, indicate that it corresponds to a mixture of aluminum magnesium hydrated silicates of clayey nature, where the orthorhombic palygorskite is the fundamental phase, accompanied by other clay of the smectite group (montmorillonite) and very little quantities of magnesial chlorite (clinochlore) and quartz, identified by X-ray diffraction technique. The results reveal that clayey phase has a nanofibrous morphology and BET surface area of about 156 g/cm². The BET surface area grows up to 267 g/cm² because of the increase of the mesoporosity when the clayey fraction is heated at 300 °C, being favorable for the semiconducting carbonaceous nanomaterials Graphene-like/Clay synthesis. In a preliminary proof it was possible to demonstrate that the clayey fraction of Pontezuela mine is able to adsorb abundant polysaccharides (40 %) when is previously heated at 300 °C. The quantity and quality of adsorption sites formed in the thermal activation explain that the Graphene-like/clay composite prepared in these conditions shows the highest electronic conductivity (16 S/cm) reported up to now for this kind of material.
