Abstract (English): In cardiology, nuclear emission tomography plays a very important role because cardiac diseasse initially manifests as a set of biochemical and physiological changes, which subsequently presents the structural changes, visualized with modalities such as echocardiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging or angiography. These biochemical and physiological changes are detected by myocardial perfusion analysis, which describes the process of systemic circulation, which is responsible for transporting nutrients, carry waste products and carry hormones between the blood and the interstitial fluid. In this paper a description of the advances in nuclear emission imaging for the evaluation of blood flow in myocardial tissue is presented. This description considers the PET and SPECT modalities. Abstract (Spanish): La tomografía por emisión nuclear en medicina cardiovascular juega un papel muy importante debido a que el daño cardiaco, inicialmente, se manifiesta como un conjunto de cambios bioquímicos y fisiológicos, que posteriormente se presentan como cambios estructurales, visualizables con modalidades tales como ecocardiografía, tomografía computarizada, resonancia magnética o angiografía. Estos cambios bioquímicos y fisiológicos son detectados por el análisis de la perfusión miocárdica, la cual describe el proceso de circulación sistémica, que se encarga de transportar sustancias nutrientes, llevarse los productos de desecho y conducir hormonas entre la sangre y el líquido intersticial. En este artículo se realiza una descripción de los avances en imagenología por emisión nuclear, en sus modalidades tomografía por emisión de positrones (PET) y tomografía por emisión de fotones sencillos (SPECT), para la evaluación del flujo de sangre en el tejido miocárdico.
