Abstract (English): Objetive: To determine the level of knowledge, attitudes and negative results of the behavior of selfmedication in the students at the Public University of the Lambayeque Region during the 2010 – 2012. Material and Methods: we decide to conduct an exploratory, observational, Quantitative Research and prospective cross-sectional. The sampling was stratified by powers and years of study. Development is a self-administered questionnaire to 2093 university students. Results: It was noted that the level of knowledge was suitable reaching 54.5 % (male: 49.65 %, female 58.81 % ). The main reasons that led to selfmedicate was the economic factor (not to pay a medical consultation) with a value of 30.4 %; followed by the perception that their symptoms were not so serious to go to a doctor with a value of 28.9 %. Also, mild symptoms such as pain (83.0 % ), fever (53.9 %) and pruritus (19.0 % ); the presence of symptoms of moderate to severe infection (49.0 %) or digestive disturbances (21.2 % ). The negative results collected and reported by college students to self-medicate after are caused in a 30.9 % for the pill of the next day and 31.2 % of the clindamycin in females; the Retin A ® with a 15.4 per cent and the ciprofloxacin with a 9.8 % in the male sex. Conclusion: Self-medication is a problem in the university population because that in spite of having a proper knowledge of the topic presented attitudes of indiscriminate use of drugs with the appearance of negative results or unwanted. Abstract (Spanish): Objetivo: Determinar el nivel de conocimiento, actitudes y resultados negativos de la conducta de Automedicación en los Estudiantes de la Universidad Pública de la Región Lambayeque durante el 2010 – 2012. Material y Métodos: Investigación de tipo cuantitativo, exploratoria, observacional, prospectivo de corte transversal. El muestreo fue estratificado por facultades y años de estudio. Se desarrolló un cuestionario autoaplicado a 2093 estudiantes universitarios. Resultados: Se observó que el nivel de conocimiento fue adecuado alcanzando 54.5% (sexo masculino: 49.65%, sexo femenino: 58.81%). Los principales motivos que llevaron a automedicarse fue el factor económico (no pagar una consulta médica) con un valor de 30,4 %; seguido por la autopercepción de que sus síntomas no eran tan serios para acudir a un médico con un valor de 28,9%. Así mismo, síntomas leves como dolor (83,0%), fiebre (53,9%) y prurito (19,0%); a la presencia de síntomas de moderado a severo como Infección (49,0%) o molestias digestivas (21,2%). Los resultados negativos percibidos y referidos por los estudiantes universitarios después de automedicarse son ocasionados en un 30.9% por la pastilla del día siguiente y 31,2% por la clindamicina en el sexo femenino; el Retin A ® con un 15,4% y el ciprofloxacino con un 9,8% en el sexo masculino. Conclusión: La automedicación es un problema en la población universitaria debido que a pesar de tener un adecuado conocimiento del tema presentan actitudes de uso indiscriminado de medicamentos con aparición de resultados negativos o no deseados.
