Abstract (English): Introduction. The European Union (1999) signed the declaration of Bologna, to converge and harmonize a better educational system and establish a curriculum in terms of structures, programs and current teaching to make these more comparable and achieve the profile and competencies for dentists in the European Union. A competence is the mixture of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values as an integrated response to the circumstances found in orthodontic practice. Objective. To build competencies for the Alexander Discipline (DA), to include it in this global education system, and to benefit professionals and patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Methods. In a bibliography review based on the literature of the Alexander discipline and the domains of the profile and competences of the European dentist approved by the Association of Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) competences were built for DA. Results. 221 competences were grouped in 7 domains, and were structured according to the profile and competencies of the dentist European. Conclusions. Specialized disciplines began to use this approach in order to improve the definition of what should be learned and professionals are better prepared and more competent to make a diagnosis and clinical judgment. Abstract (Spanish): Introducción.
