Abstract (English): Objective: To investigate the attitudes of medical students attending Faculdade Dinâmica do Vale do Piranga in Ponte Nova/MG, regarding the Alternative and Complementary Therapies(TAC). Method: Transversal descriptive study conducted with students regularly enrolled in the medical basic cycle during the second semester of 2017 at the referred institution. For data collection, two auto-analyzable and anonymous questionnaires were applied: the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Health Belief Questionnaire (CHBQ), in order to trace the students' attitudes towards TAC, and a questionnaire to investigate their knowledge of the TAC, how the subject is addressed in class, their interest in learning and disposition to recommend the therapies to patients and family members. Results: A positive attitude was observed among the students regarding the TAC. The majority of the TAC presented were known, highlighting herbal medicine, prayer, teas, folk healers, acupuncture, yoga and spiritual treatments. Seven of the therapies were addressed in the classroom between 20% and 30% of the time and, even though the percentile was low, more than 50% of the students affirmed interest in learning more about eleven out of the thirteen therapies presented, with higher interests regarding acupuncture, yoga, and herbal medicine. More than 50% of the students recommend the use of acupuncture, homeopathy, herbal medicine, yoga, teas, prayers and spiritual treatments to patients and family members. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that although the teaching of the TAC is not obligatory in the graduation curriculum, there is a favorable attitude among the students regarding the TAC and interest in learning and recommending their use, making discussions on the subject matter relevant in the academic ambit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
