| Abstract (English): | The development of personality entails a progressive increase, along with age, social demands and the need for emotional control; the deficiencies of this last aspect provoke the appearance of diverse "escape valves" to supply these deficiencies. Describe the relationship of some of them: deforming oral habits and disorders in the emotional and psychological, was the objective of this review, counting a total of 39 references. It was obtained as a result that the habits in which the aforementioned disorders most strongly influenced were: interposition habits, digital suction, mouth breathing, postural habits and bruxism. It was concluded that understanding the relationship under study in its general and particular aspects, allows the professional to act preventively in primary health care to reduce the incidence and prevalence of malocclusions. | Abstract (Spanish): | El desarrollo de la personalidad conlleva un aumento progresivo, a la par de la edad, de las exigencias sociales y de la necesidad del control emocional; las deficiencias de este último aspecto provocan la aparición de "válvulas de escape" diversas para suplir estas deficiencias. Describir la relación de algunas de ellas: los hábitos bucales deformantes y los desórdenes en el plano emocional y psicológico, fue el objetivo de la presente revisión, contándose un total de 39 referencias. Se obtuvo como resultado que los hábitos en los cuales influían con mayor fuerza los desórdenes referidos fueron los citados: hábitos de interposición, succión digital, respiración bucal, los hábitos posturales y el bruxismo. Se concluyó que la comprensión de la relación en estudio en sus aspectos generales y particulares, permite al profesional actuar preventivamente en la atención primaria de salud para disminuir la incidencia y prevalencia de las maloclusiones.
