Abstract (English): Objective: To evaluate the presence of parasitic forms in faecal samples and water for consumption by residents in the agrarian reform settlement in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais. In addition to identifying previous knowledge about diseases. Casuistic and Method: Participants were individuals, aged between 40 and 60 years old, of both sexes and residents of the settlement. A questionnaire was applied to evaluate the community's knowledge about enteroparasitosis and then the fecal and water samples were collected for analysis by Ritchie's technique and Hoffman-Pons-Janer method. Results: Thirty-nine fecal samples were collected, being 26 (51.3%) were positive for intestinal parasites. Among the positive samples, 20 samples (77%) were present Endolimax nana cysts, four (15.4%) cysts of Giardia lamblia or Entamoeba coli, two samples (7.7%) contained Entamoeba histolytica / dispar cysts and one (3.8%) Iodamoeba butschlii cyst. Four water samples (15%) presented E. nana cysts. Regarding the questionnaire, 43 respondents, 13 participants (34.3%) stated that it is not possible to contaminate with enteroparasites by means of water and land, while 29 (76.4%) people believe that the intake of contaminated water and food source of infection. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that there may be a source of water contamination favoring the infection of the residents and this fact is potentiated by the lack of basic information about prophylaxis, observed in the results of the prior knowledge questionnaires applied to the inhabitants of the settlement. Abstract (Portuguese): Objetivo: Avaliar a presença de formas parasitárias em amostras de fezes e da água para consumo dos moradores de um assentamento da reforma agrária em Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais - MG. Identificar o conhecimento prévio dos moradores sobre as doenças. Casuística e Método: Participaram do estudo pessoas com 40 a 60 anos moradores do assentamento. Um questionário foi aplicado para avaliar o conhecimento da comunidade sobre as enteroparasitoses e em seguida realizada a coleta de amostras fecais e da água para análise pelos métodos de Ritchie e de Hoffman, Pons e Janer. Resultados e Discussão: Foram coletadas 39 amostras de fezes sendo 26 (51,3%) positivas para parasitos intestinais. Dentre as amostras positivas 20 (77%) amostras apresentaram cistos de Endolimax nana, quatro (15,4%) cistos de Giardia lamblia ou Entamoeba coli, duas amostras (7,7%) continham cistos de Entamoeba histolytica/dispar e uma (3,8%) cisto de Iodamoeba butschlii. Quatro amostras hídricas (15%) apresentaram cistos de E. nana. Quanto ao questionário, 43 pessoas responderam, sendo 13 participantes (34,3%) afirmaram que não é possível se contaminar com enteroparasitos por meio da água e terra, enquanto que 29 (76,4%) pessoas acreditam que a ingestão de água e alimentos seja fonte de infecção. Conclusões: Os autores demonstraram que pode haver uma fonte de contaminação da água favorecendo a infecção dos moradores e esse fato é potencializado pela falta de informações básicas sobre a prevenção, observado nos resultados dos questionários de conhecimento prévio aplicado aos moradores do assentamento.
